Not a lot occurred on the first day of the program- however, we did go to a Giraffe Rescue Center for some touristy information on giraffes. The animals are wild, but have been taught to take food from visitors, even from their mouths! Apparently there’s no way to get a giraffe sick or poisoned because their saliva is antiseptic and protects them from anything that may come in through food vectors. Additionally, giraffes can drink 6-7 liters of water in 15 minutes, with their heads essentially upside down. Basically we got a lot of crazy facts about giraffes in a really short amount of time. There were also warthogs- see the video for how awesome those were. Otherwise the rest of the day was orientation stuff- not the most thrilling.

Is that antiseptic saliva vector a 2 way thing?
