I'm just back from Shirazi, a tiny rural village on the Swahili coast south of Mombasa. I will be in Mombasa for about a week before I return to Nairobi- we're going to be doing site visits and some development/health lectures. I will try to put up at least a few pictures tomorrow- the problem is the technology/infrastructure here makes it incredibly difficult to post massive files (ie pictures) without spending a lot of money, but they will go up soon. Some quick details about my time in Shirazi to pique your interest, massive post should be up some time tomorrow or the next day.
- I am covered in henna/black hair dye (feet, lower legs, hands [palms and backs], and arms and have brand new jewelry.
- I am an expert in wearing kanga and have a week's worth of them.
- I'm sick of latrines, but love bucket showers under the stars.
- My family was amazing in all aspects.
- Chairs and silverware are completely foreign objects.
- I've had enough fried food to last a lifetime.
More to come tomorrow! Send life updates/emails- being without phone or internet for weeks is isolating.
